When should you change your vehicles oil?
We are often asked "How often should I change my oil?" below we have listed our recommended intervals.
Our recommended fluid change intervals
Customers frequently inquire about the frequency with which they should change their oil. In response to this common question, we have compiled a set of recommended intervals for oil changes. It is important to keep in mind that there is no concept of lifetime fluid when it comes to maintaining your vehicle's performance and longevity.
Oil Changes
When considering the appropriate interval for changing your vehicle's oil, it is important to note that while many manufacturers may recommend a longer timeframe, we advise that it is prudent to change your oil no later than every 5,000 miles. Specifically, for those who tend to drive their vehicles in a more aggressive or spirited manner, it becomes even more crucial to adhere to a more frequent oil change schedule, ideally around every 3,000 miles.
Transmission/Transfer Case Fluid
For casual drivers using their vehicles primarily for daily commuting and occasional errands, we recommend following a maintenance interval of approximately 45,000 miles to ensure optimal performance and longevity of key components. However, for individuals who regularly engage in towing, hauling heavy loads, or subject their vehicles to harsh driving conditions, it is advisable to shorten the maintenance interval to between 25,000 and 30,000 miles in order to prevent premature wear and potential damage to vital engine parts.
Differential Fluid
If the front differential shares fluid with the transmission, it is recommended to change the fluid every 25,000-30,000 miles for optimal performance and longevity. However, if the differential operates independently, it is advisable to change the fluid at approximately 50,000 miles to ensure smooth functioning and prevent potential issues in the future. Regular maintenance of the differential fluid helps to protect the components and maintain the efficiency of the vehicle's drivetrain system, ultimately extending its lifespan and reducing the risk of mechanical failures.
Power Steering Fluid
When a vehicle reaches approximately 80,000 miles, it is recommended to consider changing the power steering fluid. Typically, when components related to power steering are replaced, it is standard practice to flush the system's lines to ensure efficiency. Should the fluid appear old, dirty, or emit a pungent odor, it is strongly advised to have it replaced promptly.
Brake/Clutch Fluid
It is typically advised to consider changing the brake fluid approximately every 50,000 miles to ensure optimal performance and safety. As a general practice, when calipers are being replaced or upon customer request, we will perform a thorough flush of the fluid and install new fluid to enhance the braking system's efficiency. Furthermore, if your vehicle's clutch pedal shares the same reservoir as the brake system, our recommendation is to schedule more frequent changes to uphold the system's integrity and reliability.
Coolant
It is generally recommended to consider changing the coolant approximately every 50,000 to 100,000 miles or about every 2 to 5 years for optimal engine performance. Typically, when components related to the cooling system are replaced, a complete system flush is conducted, and the old coolant is then replaced with fresh coolant to ensure efficient operation and longevity of the system.
