Fluid Leaks

Some fluid leaks can be pretty serious, while we suggest fixing every leak your vehicle has we know that may not be an option financially.

My vehicle is leaking fluid, what do I do?

If you notice that your vehicle is losing coolant, oil, or brake fluid, it is crucial to address the issue promptly by seeking professional assistance. Ignoring such leaks can lead to serious mechanical problems that could result in costly repairs down the line.

Oil Leaks

Oil leaks can be pesky to hunt down in certain situations, especially since they tend to manifest gradually over time. When dealing with oil leaks at home, your best course of action is to thoroughly clean the affected area and then run the vehicle to pinpoint the source of the leak. It is essential to note that once a vehicle reaches around 20 years old, the likelihood of seal failure increases. Although encountering oil leaks is relatively common, they should only be deemed worrisome if you notice a loss of more than a quart of oil between 3,000-mile oil change intervals or if the leak is originating from a significant component. One of the most prevalent types of oil leaks that we come across are caused by deteriorating valve cover gaskets.

Transmission/Transfer Case Leaks

There are generally not too many external seals that may leak on transfer cases or transmissions, but it is highly recommended to address any issues with these components promptly as they play crucial roles in ensuring your vehicle operates smoothly. Neglecting to address these problems promptly could lead to a less-than-optimal driving experience. For instance, insufficient transmission fluid levels can result in issues such as uncomfortable and improper shifting of the transmission, which can impact the overall performance and safety of your vehicle on the road.

Differential Leaks

If you notice that the differential in your vehicle is leaking, it is highly recommended to address this issue promptly by having it repaired as soon as possible. Neglecting to resolve this problem in a timely manner could result in a complete lack of lubrication in the differential, leading to potential catastrophic consequences such as the differential seizing up or experiencing a damaging rupture. It's crucial to prioritize the maintenance of your vehicle's differential to ensure its proper functioning and prevent any costly repairs or dangerous situations from occurring.

Power Steering Fluid Leaks

It is not uncommon for most older cars, typically those aged 15 years or more, to develop a leak in their power steering system over time. One key indicator of a power steering leak is the presence of a distinct whine noise when you turn the wheel. Additionally, you can visually inspect the power steering reservoir; if it appears frothy after starting your car or during a drive, it could signal a leak. In the worst-case scenario, a leaking power steering system can lead to a total loss of power steering functionality, resulting in potential damage to both the pump and the steering rack of your vehicle.

Brake/Clutch Fluid Leaks

If you notice any leakage in your vehicle's brake system, it is crucial not to operate the vehicle and instead consider arranging for the vehicle to be towed to a repair facility as soon as possible. Continuing to drive a vehicle with leaking brakes poses a significant safety risk due to the potential loss of braking power. Therefore, addressing a leaking brake line should be a top priority when confronted with this issue. Make sure to take the necessary steps promptly to ensure the safety and functionality of your vehicle.

Coolant Leaks

Coolant leaks are a significant issue that should not be taken lightly, and we highly recommend addressing them promptly. If you notice a coolant leak in your vehicle, it is crucial to act swiftly to prevent any potential damage. When the coolant level drops too low, it can lead to air entering the cooling system, which can result in your engine overheating. This overheating poses a serious risk of causing extensive damage to your engine components, potentially leading to costly repairs. Therefore, it's essential to address coolant leaks promptly to avoid these detrimental effects on your vehicle's performance and longevity.
